Cisco Systems, Incorporated is a global company which is recognized the world over for the quality products and services that they offer to homes, offices, individuals and business establishments of all sizes. Cisco also markets their products under two other popular brands: Linksys and Scientific Atlanta. Because of the worldwide recognition that the company has successfully built over the years, the certifications that they issue has also become industry standards for IT professionals out there who wish to become full-fledged Cisco systems administrator. Cisco basically offers three levels of certifications for their networking systems.

First, there is the associate level where an IT professional will be tested for the basic skills, knowledge and hands-on experience when dealing with Cisco-based network systems. An associate level of certification will earn an individual the authority to install, configure and manage Cisco network systems which contain less than a hundred nodes or end units. The CCNA is the first step towards gaining a Cisco certification. To successfully pass the CCNA certification, an individual needs to undergo the CCNA curriculum by enrolling in Cisco authorized learning centers. There are four courses under the CCNA curriculum. Second, there is the professional level of Cisco certification. This is the middle level when it comes to the certification issued by Cisco Systems, Incorporated. A Cisco Certified Network Professional can handle medium-sized networks, preferably between 100 to 150 end units.

Being a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert will earn you the chances of advancing your career to becoming a senior network manager, or an equivalent or even higher positions. The expert level of certifications issued by Cisco to IT professionals deals more on the areas of specialization. For example, a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert can have a specialization in routing and switching, security, service provider, voice technology or storage networking.

To get a hold of these Cisco certifications, an IT professional needs to undergo a certain number of hours or months of training to be qualified to take the exams for any of the three levels, be it an associate, professional or expert certification. Due to the growing demand of Cisco-certified IT professionals in the industry today, the company has developed the Cisco Networking Academy Program. They offer networking courses like the CCNA or the Cisco Certified Networking Associate course, and the CCNP or the Cisco Certified Networking Professional course. Five years ago, Cisco introduced the high-value e-learning courseware which they developed to specifically assist and prepare IT professionals for the Cisco Career Certification.
